Each speck is a person who can farm — slow, honest, worth little if a neighbor plunders it — or raid — fast and profitable, until it's caught. Nobody plans; each simply drifts toward whatever paid better nearby. That drift is the replicator equation, the honest test of a strategic claim.
Hobbes's wager: in the state of nature raiding always pays, so it spreads until production collapses and life is solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short. Watch the tank redden and the lifespan readout crater to see it happen.
His remedy is a sovereign — one common power that punishes raiding. Stretch its gold ring and give it teeth (severity) and the whole equilibrium flips: farming becomes the winning move and total wealth explodes. That is the Leviathan's bargain.
But the sovereign also takes a tax. Crank it and the guardian becomes the biggest raider of all — peace, but plunder. Who guards the guardian? The dashed-gold tick predicts the equilibrium; the tank shows whether the theory holds.
The terrarium stalled. The lesson continues without it — everything you have already done is safe.
