This pond is a tiny food chain. The sun feeds the green algae. The little minnows eat the algae. The tall herons fish for the minnows. Energy flows up the chain, one link at a time.
The herons keep the minnows from getting too many. Scoop every heron out and the minnows go wild — they boom. But then they eat up all the algae, run out of food, and crash. Too many eaters with nothing to eat!
That is the big idea: every link holds the chain up. Take one link away and the whole pond can wobble or fall over. A healthy pond keeps all three living together.
Real park rangers watch ponds like this. When one animal disappears, the others feel it too — because in nature, everything is connected.
Something in the pond stopped unexpectedly — the lesson continues without it. You can move on; nothing you did was wrong.
