Take a sip of coffee. Congratulations — you just took a drug. Not in some edgy, gotcha sense, but in the plainest scientific one. A drug is simply a chemical that gets into your body and changes how your brain or body works. By that definition the caffeine in your mug, the antihistamine in your medicine cabinet, the alcohol at a party, and a substance that's illegal everywhere are all members of the same family. They differ enormously in how strong they are, how safe they are, and how the law treats them — but to your neurons, they're all just molecules showing up and pulling levers. This course is about understanding those levers. We're not here to scare you, sell you anything, or tell you how to live. We're here to explain, honestly and clearly, what these chemicals actually do inside a human brain — because the headlines you read about drugs swing wildly between panic and hype, and the calm middle, the real science, is where the useful truth lives.
